Located in the Quiapo neighborhood of Manila, Philippines, the Minor Basilica of the Black Nazarene is also referred to as the Parish of Saint John the Baptist and simply as Quiapo Church. The church is home to the well-known Black Nazarene, a life-size black statue of Jesus Christ bearing the cross. The Lord Black Nazarene cured many and answered many prayers. Because of this, the church attracts both non-believers and believers. It is customary for visitors visiting Manila to worship the Black Nazarene.  - The church's front features elaborate twisted columns typical of the Baroque style of architecture. Balustrades and scrollwork adorn the tops of the bell towers. The tympanum, which is a semicircle, is topped by two finials in the shape of chalices. The church is further embellished with quatrefoil windows. - Take a look at the Christ statue in black. The 5' 5' tall lifelike figure wears a regal crimson embroidered tunic decorated with lace and ribbons. The 6' 0' high cross is held in the right hand, while the left contains the golden loops and balls. The statue's structure is made of wood and ivory. - Masses and Confessions take place at every hour of the day. On Fridays, worshippers of the Lord of the Black Nazarene flock to the church. Regular processions, novenas, and social works for the destitute complement the church's regular speeches and recalls. - Every year on the first Friday, a procession takes place when the statue is taken out of the church as a motive to pray and offer thanks to the lord. The procession takes five to twenty-three hours to complete and is a time-consuming affair.
