Most of the tourists consider Casablanca as a transit point for their visit to other popular Moroccan cities like Marrakech, Fes, Chefchaouen, and others. But, Casablanca requires your attention. The city is a blend of “old and new” scattered across the city– from traditional Medina to nightclubs and beaches to relax on your laid-back holiday. Here’s a quick rundown of facts that you should know before you leave for Casablanca.
Thanks to its geographical location on the Atlantic coast, its winters are mostly rainy but mild. Tourists looking for pleasant weather can plan their visit in April/May or September/October. During this time you’ll experience the best weather with pleasant temperatures.
The Mawazine Festival in Rabat draws quite a few musicians as well as visitors from all around the world. This Moroccan international music festival is held annually in June. The concerts held are both free to the public as well as ticketed.
P.S: Casablanca to Rabat is approx. 90 kms and takes 1 hour to reach by private transport.
Of course, seafood! It is a major part of Casablanca’s culinary flavor. Don’t forget to try fried or grilled mixed seafood or fish tagine served with olives, tomatoes, peppers, and lemon wedges. Lamb is popular in Casablanca and is often cooked on an open fire or boiled and served with a bowl of soup. Harira soup made from lamb is very popular among tourists.
For a quirky gift for your friends, you can buy a Rick’s Café t-shirt. There’s no such café in Casablanca, but it just got popularity for the iconic movie called Casablanca. The other souvenirs you can buy include rugs, carpets, traditional clothing, shisha pipes, lanterns, pottery, babouche, etc.
