Luna Convento

One of the oldest cloisters in the Amalfi region, this magnificent example of Moorish architecture hotel will astound you with its mystical aura. This building still stands today, over 800 years after Saint Francis of Assisi founded it in 1222.

After being transformed from a Franciscan monastery founded in the thirteenth century by St. Francis of Assisi into an inn and then into a historical hotel known as 'Hotel Luna Convento,' nearly 200 years have passed. The Barbaro family has run this hotel for five generations without interruption.

How to explore Luna Convento?

  • In the ancient cloister, there are two artistic panels that were historically researched for the graphics and photographs, illustrating the path of tourism from the time of travel of the 'Grand Tour' to this day. The panels show the origin of visitors from all five continents through a selection of autographs, poems, appraisals, and images extracted from the 'Golden Books' of the guests of the hotel. These travelers were international personalities of the clergy, culture, art, politics, and of the aristocracy who were drawn to these places by the beauty of the coast. These travelers came to witness the history of the ancient Maritime Republic and the remains of the Apostle Andrew that were buried in the crypt of the Cathedral present here.
  • Cultivated gardens and terraces are present in its vicinity. These nearby terraces date back to the Middle Ages and consist of rubble made of dry stone walls, partly restored with the application of masonry in the Bourbon age. Relax and rejuvenate by spending time in these gardens.
  • Two restaurants with breathtaking sea views are available at the Hotel Luna Convento to satisfy your appetite and your senses with traditional Amalfi delicacies. These eateries are the ideal fusion of mountain and sea.
  • Enjoy the elegance of the distinctively designed hotel rooms that offer a breathtaking vista of the Ancient Maritime Republic's crystal-clear water. The warm and welcoming environment that has traditionally distinguished the hotel is created by decorations and furnishings that are in true Mediterranean style.
  • The seawater pool, solarium, and private entrance to the sea will develop into the perfect settings for moments of total relaxation, soothed by the sound of the waves and warmed by the sun's warm rays.
